FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE………

(October 5, 2026):  The 10th Anniversary season of the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series came to a close on September 25th as Troy Betts of Middletown DE claimed the 2026 championship with the popular series. Betts' second place finish at Bridgeport in the season finale secured his second championship with the series. This marked the 14th time in 17 points events this year that he finished in the top five, highlighted by his three victories.

The 2026 season was certainly an exciting one, as 11 different drivers took home feature wins, including three first time winners in the series. Andrew Turpin of Saylorburg, PA picked up his first career MASS victory in just the third race of the season back on May 16th at Bridgeport.  In July, Dan Leaper of Douglassville, PA paced the field in the first ever series stop at the Middleford Speedway, picking up his first ever sprint car victory.

Scranton, PA’s Mikey Smith picked his first two MASS wins in the year’s two biggest races of the year, the Joey Kay Memorial in June and the non-point Ron Faison Memorial Sprint Car Nationals 50-lapper in Sept, both held at the Bridgeport Speedway. The much anticipated event, held on Labor Day weekend, saw Smith make a last lap pass on series director Eddie Wagner to sweep the two biggest MASS races of the year.  In the two exciting events that weekend, Wagner led 73 of 75 laps, posting second place finishes on both nights to Rick Lafferty on prelim night and Smith on Saturday, as both races came down to the final circuit.

The story all season long of course was Troy Betts, as he consistently kept his immaculately prepared #22 up front in each event. Betts' finished in the top three in the first 6 events of the season, including two victories on the same weekend. In total Betts' tied for the most feature wins in the series this season with 3, and finished in the top five on fourteen occasions.

Tim Iulg had a very strong year as well, winning the season opener at Bridgeport in April and putting up some really impressive stats of his own to finish second in points. Iulg posted two Bitner Automotive feature fast time awards, and twelve top five finishes including his one win.

Rick Lafferty finished third in the point standings, rebounding back from missing his only event in the second race of the season. He posted three feature wins of his own, all coming in the last 2 months of the season. One of those feature wins was a non-points event held on the Ron Faison Memorial Sprint Car Nationals Preliminary night in September. He finished in the top five in half of the races he entered.

Eddie Wagner overcame a slow start to the season, which included him losing a motor at Delaware international in the second event of the season, to finish fourth in points with a strong finish. Wagner finished strong as he finished in the top 5 in each of the final nine races including his two wins to get within five points of Lafferty for third in the final standings.

Ryan Stillwaggon rounded out the top five in points. He had an up-and-down season, but finished strong with his one win coming in September at Georgetown.

Overall 45 different drivers competed in the 19 events so far, with 18 of those teams competing in 10 events or more.

The Mid-Atlantic Sprint series still has four events left on the schedule, so you still have time to witness some of this great Sprint car racing as they conclude their 10th anniversary season. This coming weekend they will be in competition on Friday night, Oct. 9, at the Georgetown Speedway to kick off a two night race weekend in the state of Delaware. Saturday night the series returns to Middleford Speedway in Seaford, Delaware for the much anticipated second visit to the racy quarter mile oval. Both events will pay $1000 to win thanks to Delaware Race sponsor Betts Garage Towing and Hauling.

The series then concludes the 2026 season at the Bridgeport Speedway as part of the Dirty Jersey Finale on Halloween weekend October 30 and 31st, with Saturday’s race paying $2000 to win.
