WAGNER WINS THE BATTLE, BETTS WINS THE WAR FOR 2026 CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

(Sept. 25, 2026):  Eddie Wagner of Newfield, NJ took home his second win in a month as he led all 25 laps of the final point race of 2026 for the DCB Plumbing & Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series presented by Capitol Renegade. Troy Betts settled for second on this night, but was crowned the MASS champion for the second time in his career. This was Bett’s 15th top five finish in 19 attempts this year.     

“We had to change the motor last night after finding metal in the oil” explained Wagner in victory lane, “I wasn’t going to race but my crew stepped up and helped get the motor changed and here we are!”   

Wagner jumped out in front at the start Kyle Spence and DJ Tanner battling for second in the opening laps.  Point leader Betts was on the move as he grabbed 4th on the opening lap from his 6th starting position. Betts was wasting no time as he moved quickly into the runner up spot and set his sights on Wagner.  Dj Tanner was hanging tough in third and on two consecutive restarts he made the race for the lead three wide but couldn’t make the move stick.  As the race reached halfway 12th starter Tim Iulg was charging thru the field, and entered the top 5 with Dave Brown Jr. rebounding back from early in the race, as he was right behind him.  

Wagner continued to lead by 5 car lengths, unable to pull further away from Betts but still not letting Betts close enough to challenge.  Brown continued his impressive run as he passed both Iulg and Spence for 4th and then a few later got by Tanner for third.  The last 5 laps saw lapped traffic come into play, but Wagner was up to every challenge as he sliced thru it like a pro to hold off Betts in the end.  Troy Betts, who also changed his motor earlier in the day, took home second and captured the 2026 championship in the process.  Dave Brown Jr. raced home third after starting 8th, followed by DJ Tanner and Tim Iulg. 

Despite the 2026 point season ending, the MASS Sprints have 4 more races left in October. In two weeks, they have a two night weekend in Delaware coming up on Oct. 9 and 10.  Friday night Oct. 9, will see MASS in action for the 4th time this year at The Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown DE.  The following night, Oct. 10, will see the much anticipated return of MASS to Middleford Speedway in Seaford DE.
