Middletown, DE’s Troy Betts is on a mission to claim the 2025 DCB Plumbing and Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series championship. After Saturday night’s feature win at Bridgeport, it’s looking more and more likely he’ll accomplish that goal with just three points events remaining.

Betts, who joined the MASS circuit last season after many years competing with the URC 360s, captured his first-ever Sprint Car win at New Egypt Speedway in 2024. This year, he’s been the driver to beat at Bridgeport, where all three of his victories have come.

Betts wasn’t pleased with how his night began on Saturday, showing frustration after timing 14th out of 22 in hot laps. However, he rebounded in the heat race, qualifying for a redraw spot and lining up third on the feature grid behind Jeff Paulson and rival Kevin Nagy.

With Paulson and Nagy leading the field at the start, it didn’t take long for Betts to find his rhythm, seizing the lead by lap ten. On lap 12, the red flag flew for fourth-place runner Shelby Kelly, who caught the wall in turns one and two while trying to maneuver through lapped traffic.

Seventh-place runner Buddy Schweibinz, subbing in behind the wheel of the Ale Racing #19A while Tim Iulg recovers from last week’s Selinsgrove crash, was forced out after the red flag with magneto failure—opening the door for Rick Lafferty and Eddie Wagner to break into the top five.

When the race went back green, it quickly became a showdown between Betts and Nagy. The Betts’ Garage Towing and Hauling No. 22 set the pace out front, but Nagy’s No. 45 stayed glued to his tail, keeping relentless pressure on the leader.

At the checkered flag, Betts edged out Nagy by a razor-thin 0.081 seconds at the line. Brian Carber charged his way to a hard-fought third to complete the podium, with Rick Lafferty and Eddie Wagner rounding out the top five.

The series takes a break next weekend before returning to action on Saturday, September 6th at Bridgeport Speedway. With only three points races left, the chase for the championship is heating up, leading to the grand finale at Delaware International Speedway on September 20th, where the 2025 MASS champion will be crowned.
