SWEDESBORO, NJ — The DCB Plumbing and Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) presented by Capitol Renegade hosted its 9th Annual Awards Banquet this past weekend, gathering drivers, teams, officials, and supporters to celebrate the accomplishments and standout moments of the 2025 racing season. The event featured special recognitions, the introduction of new awards, and a tribute to the individuals whose excellence both on and off the track helped shape another successful year for the Racesaver 305 Sprint Car division.
MASS Regional Director Eddie Wagner opened the evening by reflecting on the highlights of the 2025 season and sharing updates for the year ahead. Numerous sponsors and special guests were acknowledged for their continued support, including DCB Plumbing & Heating, Tanner Brothers Dairy & Farm Store, F&W Grafix, Lines Self Storage, Betts Garage & Towing, and Professional Design Services, among others.
Specialty Awards Highlight Season Excellence
A slate of specialty awards recognized exceptional achievements throughout the 2025 season.
Hard Charger of the Year – Buddy Schweibinz - Petersburg, NJ driver Buddy Schweibinz earned five Hard Charger awards and passed 71 cars across feature events, highlighted by a memorable last-to-second drive after mechanical trouble earlier in the night.
Team Excellence Award – E3 Racing - E3 Racing was honored for more than two decades of dedication to racing. The team’s contributions both on and off the track — from race support to community involvement — earned them the inaugural Team Excellence Award.
Most Improved Driver – DJ Tanner - Third-generation racer DJ Tanner delivered a breakout season, scoring two feature wins, multiple top-five finishes, and an impressive podium performance at the 305 Nationals. His rapid growth and competitiveness earned him this year’s Most Improved Driver honor.
Mechanic of the Year – Kevin Kelly Jr. - Recognized for his commitment to the No. 51 Tin Hoagie Customs team, Kevin Kelly Jr. was celebrated for his behind-the-scenes impact, setup expertise, and dedication that helped lead the team to multiple strong finishes.
Diamond Double Header Series Introduced for 2025
A major addition to the 2025 season was the introduction of the Diamond Double Header Series, a nine-race mini-championship designed to reward consistency and adaptability across multiple tracks and weekend formats. The series was made possible through support from Betts Garage Towing & Hauling and Professional Design Services (PDS).
Troy Betts was crowned the inaugural Diamond Double Header Points Champion, excelling at Bridgeport, New Egypt, and Georgetown Speedways with consistent, high-level performances.
Special Giveaways Add Excitement to the Evening
The banquet also featured a series of highly anticipated giveaways, donated by several MASS partners. Vahlco Racing Wheels awarded a set of wheels to raffle off to drivers who won a heat race in 2025: a set of front wheels to Mark Bitner, a left rear wheel to Eddie Wagner, and a right rear wheel to Buddy Schweibinz. Kreider Manufacturing provided torsion arms to each of the Top 10 in Points. Additional front tires were awarded to Mark Bitner and Buddy Schweibinz, while Bitner Automotive donated a drum of VP Racing Fuel, won by Dan Leaper. These contributions further highlighted the strong support of the businesses that stand behind the MASS racing community.
Sportsmanship & Legacy Awards
The evening also honored individuals who demonstrated exceptional character and commitment to the MASS family.
Joey Kay Sportsmanship Award – Dave Brown - Created in memory of the late Joey Kay, this award recognizes kindness and sportsmanship. Dave Brown received the honor after lending a magneto to fellow competitor Troy Betts while leading the points standings — a gesture that embodied Joey’s legacy of generosity.
Founder’s Cup – Jeff Foote of F&W Grafix - The Founder’s Cup recognizes longstanding dedication to the Racesaver division. This year’s recipient, Jeff Foote, was honored for his artistic contributions, promotional work, and his vital role as series tire coordinator.
Championship Standings
MASS also recognized the top 10 drivers in championship points, culminating with the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series Championship.
2025 MASS Champion – Troy Betts - Middletown, DE driver Troy Betts earned his first career MASS Championship with perfect attendance, 18 top-10 finishes, 12 top fives, and three feature wins. His consistent performance throughout the season made him the clear points leader entering the banquet.
Other top finishers included runner-up Dave Brown, third-place Jeff Paulson, fourth-place DJ Tanner, and fifth-place Buddy Schweibinz. All drivers were individually recognized for their accomplishments, including heat wins, fast times, and standout season statistics.
