FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE………

(June 13, 2026):  Mikey Smith of Scranton, PA pocket $4012 Saturday night by winning the 30 lap Joey Kay Memorial at Bridgeport Speedway. Smith made the long tow from northeastern PA pay off as he captured his first ever DCB Plumbing & Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature event presented by Capitol Renegade. Smith wrestled the lead from Series point leader Troy Betts in the opening laps and drove flawlessly thru heavy lapped traffic in the non-stop event. Mikey’s brother Johnny made it an all Smith family podium as he drove from his fifth starting spot to come home second.

“I’ve been telling everyone here that this is one of the most competitive races of the year, you need to have a great team just to run up front in this race,”  Smith declared in victory lane, “When I ran a 360 (sprint car) here I found a special lane and it worked here tonight too.”

Troy Betts and Mikey Smith paced the field at the start and immediately began trading sliders on the very racy surface. The two, who provided the same action in their Match race finale earlier, picked up right where they left off to the delight of the crowd.  Betts had the answer each lap but couldn’t shake Smith as he continued to dial up the pressure. The sliders increased again when they hit lapped traffic as the duo began to try and use the lapped cars to their advantage. Smith continued to throw haymakers at Betts sliding all the way up the track, once scraping the wall exiting turn 4. However on his winning pass he chose a different line by sliding just in front of the MASS point leader while negotiating the slower traffic in turn #4

Action was everywhere on the track, as fifth starter Johnny Smith caught both Rick Lafferty and Tim Iulg and made it a three car battle for third.  Smith charged past into third at halfway and began to reel in Betts quickly. Last night’s winner Adam Carberry and 11th starter Jared Kreider were advancing thru the field rapidly as well, with Kreider passing Carberry and challenging Iulg for fifth. With just 10 laps remaining, Johnny Smith caught Betts and the two began a heated battle for second. Johnny moved past Betts for the runnerup spot, but his brother Mikey was about 3 lapped cars in front of him and was just too much to handle on this night.  Meanwhile Kreider, who may have been the fastest car on the track during the second half of the race, tracked down Betts and grabbed third on the final lap, ending Betts’ top 3 finishing streak at 6 races.

Mikey Smith cruised to the win by 3.66 sec. over his brother Johnny. Jared Kreider advanced 8 positions from the start to finish third. Early leader Betts came home fourth with opening night winner Tim Iulg rounding out the top five. Mikey Smith completed the 30 laps non-stop in a time of 7 minutes & 58 seconds.

The DCB’S Plumbing and Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series presented by Capitol Renegade is back in action next Saturday evening June 20th at Bridgeport Speedway. Pit Gates will open at 4pm, Grandstands at 5pm and Warmups are at 6pm.
