RICK LAFFERTY WINS PRESTIGIOUS CAMP BARNES RACE AT GEORGETOWN SPEEDWAY

(July 31, 2026):  Rick Lafferty of Pennington, NJ won his first MASS feature event of the season on Friday at the Georgetown Speedway as he took top honors in the Camp Barnes Benefit Race. Lafferty passed race long leader Robbie Stillwaggon with 5 laps remaining and went on to record his second career victory with the DCB Plumbing & Heating Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series presented by Capitol Renegade. Lafferty took home $1600 for winning the prestigious event courtesy of the Delaware State Police & Betts Garage Towing and Hauling. 

“This track reminds me a lot of Port Royal Speedway” announced Lafferty to the packed grandstands, “I have a lot of experience there over the years and I feel like that gives me an advantage here.”   

The Stillwaggon brothers posted the two fastest times, and would bring the field to the start with fast-timer Robbie jumping out to the lead.  Robbie paced the field in the early going chased by his brother Ryan, Rick Lafferty, point leader Troy Betts & Eddie Wagner who started 7th and was already in the top five after one lap. Wagner wasted no time as he drove under Betts on the second lap for fourth and began moving in on Lafferty.  By lap 5 Robbie S. was opening up a nice lead on his brother as a 3-car battle for fifth was beginning now between Betts, Tim Iulg and Cody West. Lafferty began to pull back away from Wagner and quickly caught Ryan Stillwaggon passing him for second with 8 laps in the books. Wagner followed suit the next lap moving into third as the duo set their sights on the leader.  

Robbie Stillwaggon's lead was slowly shrinking with each passing lap as his brother Ryan was slowly fading back thru the field. Lafferty caught the leader on lap 17 and made several bids for the lead that were thwarted by Stillwaggon each time. As they worked lap 20, Lafferty finally got the break he needed as Stillwaggon slid just a little high on the backstretch and Lafferty slipped underneath entering turn 3. Lafferty led Robbie back to the line and into turn one and two, as the first and only caution of the event was displayed for Zach Fields who coasted to a stop on the front straightaway with mechanical issues. Lafferty held Stillwaggon off over the last 5 remaining laps and posted his second career MASS series victory. Robbie Stillwaggon brought home his season best second place finish, just barely holding off Eddie Wagner as they finished side by side at the checkered. Wagner finished third for the second time here at Georgetown this season. Troy Betts and Tim Iulg rounded out the top five.     

The next event for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series will be next Saturday August 8th at the Bridgeport Speedway.
